New Free Pattern! Featuring "The Slopes Headband"

I'm happy to bring to you the prettiest little headband pattern today! 

It's The Slopes Headband, and it is just so lovely-- with it's texture-y goodness... oh, and buttons. Can't forget about the buttons! They always make things cute.

This pattern is very simple... it's a lot of post work, but it's a repeat of two rows the entire headband. I used an amazing new yarn called Chic Sheep for it (linked below) by Red Heart Yarn, and it was a dream to work up. Possibly the squishiest yarn I've dealt with! 

And I thought the buttons were a great pair with the linen color. They're made of coconut (cool, right?!), and they add a beautiful rustic touch to the headband. 

The great thing about this headband, is that it's so easily customized for sizing. I provide instructions for a woman's head, but you could easily add or take away rows for different sizes!

What you'll need:

-worsted weight (4) yarn (I used about 175 yards of Red Heart Chic Sheep in "Linen", found here)
- h hook (5 mm)
-yarn needle
-optional: two buttons (mine were 1 1/4 inch coconut buttons found at Walmart)

Abbreviations:

ch=chain, dc=double crochet, hdc=half double crochet, fpdc=front post double crochet, bpdc=back post double crochet, st(s)=stitch(es), 

Notes:

-this pattern is designed to fit a woman's head, although it is very easy to customize. Just add or take away rows to get desired length

-this pattern is written in US terms

-ch's at the beginning of the rows do not count as sts

-it's a very simple pattern, with a two row repeat, which makes it easy to whip up!

-when making the headband, it may gather up, or condense because of the ribbed stitches. But once you sew the ends together and fold the headband in half the headband will separate out some

-the buttons aren't functional on this pattern, just decoration!

Pattern:

Row 1) ch 25, dc in 3rd ch from hook and across (23)

Row 2) (back side) ch 1, turn, hdc, fpdc in the next two posts, bpdc in the next three posts, fpdc in the next four posts, bpdc in the next three posts, fpdc in the next four posts, bpdc in the next three posts, fpdc in the next two posts, hdc in the last st (23 total sts)

Row 3) (front side) ch 1, turn, hdc, bpdc in the next two posts, fpdc in the next three posts, bpdc in the next four posts, fpdc in the next three posts, bpdc in the next four posts, fpdc in the next three posts, bpdc in the next two posts, hdc in the last st (23 total sts)

Rows 4-64) repeat rows 2 & 3 alternately (or until your desired length--at 64 rows mine was about 19 inches)

-don't finish off, because you'll slip stitch your headband closed (unless you'd rather sew your headband shut)

Fold your headband in half, and slip stitch the last row to the first row. I put the right sides together for this but honestly I don't think it matters because you will cinch the seam and cover it with buttons anyways!

Once you've finished slip stitching across, you'll finish off and leave a good sized tail for cinching and sewing buttons.

Cinch the seam with your fingers, and using your yarn needle and yarn tail, make a couple of passes through seam as it is cinched. Going back and forth through the headband to gather. It's important not to gather too tightly if you're wanting to fit two buttons on it.

Then you'll sew your buttons on top of that cinched seam, which acts as a great coverup! ;)

Then your cutie little headband is complete!
